Saturday, November 14, 2009:  Dr. Jim Ingold, ornithologist at LSU-Shreveport, led the bird-banding activities.  Other participants and visitors included Tom Walker of Jefferson;Alvin & Lisa Childs of Shreveport; Sue Simmons of Karnack; Sarah Simmons of Jefferson; Cheyenne Simmons of Marshall; Ron Munden of Marshall; Colleen Cookson of Shreveport; Gene Birdsong of Denton; Paul Tidwell of Jefferson; Hector de Luna of Terrell; Zac Burson of Haughton, LA; Rick Barrow of Dallas; Tom Smith of Dallas; John Owings of Dallas; Jim Lambright of Uncertain.

 

Weather Conditions:  The morning low temperature was 51º F and the afternoon high was 77º F.  It was partly cloudy, with little wind.


Number of Nets:  Twelve (12)

 

Time:  We started setting up nets at 9:00 a.m. and all nets were closed by 4:15 p.m

Note:  About noon when Jim Ingold was checking the nets, he came upon a Red-shouldered Hawk with a copperhead snake on the ground.  The hawk was spooked off and left an upset (and uneaten) snake behind.

Note:  In thirteen years of banding, we banded this day our first Blue-headed Vireo and second Harris's Sparrow.
