Saturday, October 4, 2003 -- Dr. Jim Ingold, ornithologist at LSU-Shreveport, led the bird-banding efforts.  Other participants included Tom Walker of Jefferson; Colleen Cookson of Shreveport; Dorothy Metzler, Harve Truskett, and Don & Barbara Kiser of Longview; Ron Munden, Diane Jones, Margaret Thompson, Jack Canson, and John Gordon of Marshall; Tony Novak of Caddo Lake; Abel Munoz of Alice; and at least 25 members of the North Texas Master Naturalists from the Dallas area.

Location:  The banding activities took place just west of Caddo Lake in Marion County on Boots Walker Road (near Jefferson, Texas).

Weather Conditions:  The morning low temperature was ~51 F, and the afternoon high was ~81 F.  Skies were partly cloudy, with winds around 5 mph.

Time:  Nets were opened at 8:00 a.m. and closed at 5:30 p.m.

Number of Nets:  Only eight (8) nets were put up due to the difficulty of getting the poles into the dry, hard ground.

Next Banding Date:  Saturday, October 11, 2003 (weather permitting).  Watch our bird-banding home page or check with Tom Walker [E-mail: twalkercaddolaketx(at)att.net] for the latest information.
